Echoed Light 04:22
ECHOED LIGHT (c) Meg Tennant I am the north wind in the pine trees In the darkest winter freeze I am running wild and icy Just as hollow as can be But you are a sweet breeze in the morning Warm and steady across the blue You are wistful, you sail unguarded To meet the wonder of something new When love comes out of nowhere It’s like a promise or a prayer An echoed light Reflecting everywhere I’ve been a bull’s eye for love’s bad arrows So I’ve learned to carry this heavy shield And I swore I would pay no attention To the moonlight at my heels But when love comes out of nowhere It is a promise and a prayer An echoed light Reflecting everywhere At the party, in the kitchen Behind the bottles and the ice Two rosebuds in a blue vase I make a wish for us, I make it twice Because love comes out of nowhere It is a promise and a prayer An echoed light Reflecting everywhere

Glass Heart 03:43
GLASS HEART © Meg Tennant & Julia Rohan The glass heart you gave me it sits on the shelf On top of a picture of us Just a paperweight now, what used to mean so much Has collected a year’s worth of dust And I saw you yesterday Just like always you were looking away It doesn’t make sense I can’t let go of you yet ‘Cause you let go of me and I fell, oh I fell That sweater you left here, the one I wore all the time Still hangs on a hook by the door I guess I should give it to the Salvation Army At least it will keep someone warm And I saw you yesterday Just like always you were looking away And it doesn’t make sense I can’t let go of you yet ‘Cause you let go of me and I fell So take back this glass heart, it’s broken A dollar store trinket, a token I’m ready to move on without you When I saw you yesterday Just like always you were looking away Now I’m looking too For a new heart that’s true Sometimes the truth and the lie look the same So take back this glass heart, it’s broken A dollar store trinket, a token I’m ready to move on without you

Not Done Yet 03:30
NOT DONE YET © Meg Tennant There’s no rabbit in the hat Everybody knows that That’s what they tell you When you’re trying to get back to yourself There’s no way to win There’s just a bruise on the shin From the time you tried to kick All your dreams off the back of the shelf But you’re not done yet You’re not done yet You don’t have to give in ‘Cause there’s a promise written on the wind Written on the wind Before the end of the race You’re gonna fall flat on your face You can lie there and make a scene Or you can fly like a Phoenix out of yourself ‘Cause you’re not done yet You’re not done yet You don’t have to give in ‘Cause there’s a promise written on the wind Written on the wind I’m sure there is a light A beacon so bright It’ll blind you to the naysayers It’ll keep you surfing high on the swell ‘Cause you’re not done yet You’re not done yet You don’t have to give in ‘Cause there’s a promise written on the wind Written on the wind Every minute is a minute to begin It’s written on the wind You’re not done yet You’re not done yet

HOOKED ME LIKE A HABIT © Meg Tennant It’s hard to pay attention with this ruckus going on Just beneath the surface of my heart It’s not easy to listen to sensible advice I’m still looking for a light switch in the dark You hooked me like a habit You haunt me like the wind Like the wind when it howls down this road But I could turn a corner I could walk away Walk away, no need to carry this load I saw you with somebody, no she wasn’t just a friend You leaned into her to say some quiet words All that I could hear was the song that disappeared As the evergreens let loose a flock of birds You hooked me like a habit You haunt me like the wind Like the wind when it howls down this road But I could turn a corner I could walk away Walk away, no need to carry this load Until today I thought we still had something A steady stream, a rushing river flowing But a dream is just a dream until you wake up And I woke up just in time …to see you hooked me like a habit You haunt me like the wind Like the wind when it howls down this road But I will turn a corner I will walk away Walk away, no need to carry this load I will turn a corner I will walk away Walk away, no need to carry this load Walk away, no need to carry this load I am stronger, stronger than you know

SUNNY SHORE CAFÉ © Meg Tennant & Mark Ripp The day I went to meet you at the Sunny Shore Café My footsteps on the gravel made two sparrows fly away The windows all were open to the rolling western wind I thought about the birds that flew, wondered where they went Were they happy with their circumstance or did they have regrets Did they question their decisions or did they just forget I’m too used, too used to waiting round Never knew what really had me down The road that runs beyond the edge of town Ain’t always on the ground Can I blame you like I want to, something that you said Leaves me lost and lingering from an empty bed I’m too used, too used to waiting round Never knew what really had me down The road that runs beyond the edge of town Ain’t always on the ground I left before you got there, the wind followed me A rambling song I used to know whistled through the trees If I was a bird up there, then what would I see You down at the Sunny Shore looking up at me I’m too used, too used to waiting round Never knew what really had me down The road that runs beyond the edge of town Ain't always on the ground

KITCHEN LIGHT © Meg Tennant Late last night in the kitchen light By the window looking out at the moon I wrote a tune, something new That I promise to sing for you soon But I worry, I guess, is it really for the best To tell what my heart is holding inside? So for now won’t you listen to the hum of the wind For it carries the sound of the sea Where the wings of the gulls lift them gracefully above and there are treasures buried beneath Late last night in the kitchen light By the window looking out at the moon I wrote a tune, something new That I promise to sing for you soon But the worry is mine that a tune will outshine The way this love has so simply begun So for now won’t you listen to the sound of the sea For it comforts a weary soul to sleep Where a dream takes flight outside of time And a limitless promise we keep Late last night in the kitchen light By the window looking out at the moon I wrote a tune, something new And I promise I’ll sing it for you soon

SILENCE & SNOWBANKS © Meg Tennant & Michael Young Boot steps on the stairs In the frozen morning air I can hear the engine starting It idles in the dark Down the street a dog is barking I hear you scrape the ice away Silence and snowbanks Tire tracks and footprints A note on the table That’s all you left for me I hear you drive away Do I have to start this day With its empty sky and the trees so dark and barren I wish I didn’t care I want to be somewhere Where I don’t have to feel the things I’m feeling Silence and snowbanks Tire tracks and footprints A note on the table That’s all you left for me You said a lot of things Cryptic words between the lines You call it poetry I call it messing with my mind They’ll say a lot of things But they can’t say we never tried It doesn’t matter now We’re gonna leave it all behind Silence and snowbanks Tire tracks and footprints A note on the table That’s all you left for me

A DAY OF GRACE © Meg Tennant Sun shining, a day of grace Early morning, a silent place Where dreams are found A peaceful sound A day of grace Slow waves, a day of grace Sky blue and open, the seagulls chase Clouds are tossed Sadness lost A day of grace In the clear, clear days by the sea White curtains billow in the breeze When the sea wind sings a song Nothing can go wrong In a heart where love is strong Blue ocean, a day of grace Distant trees, there is no trace Of steps in the sand Across this land A day of grace So much worry in our hearts We try so hard to play our parts But in this moment now Everything is new This happiness is true Sun shining, a day of grace Early morning, a silent place Where dreams are found A peaceful sound A day of grace

SHINE A LIGHT ON US © Meg Tennant & Trudy Artman (for my brother Paul Davey 1960-2015) Shine a light on the stone On the daisies and the grass He will never be alone The Living Water rushing past Listen to me, sister moon Glistening down along the river He was whisked away too soon To his rest he was delivered Shine a light on us Shine a light, shine a light, shine a light Shine a light on us Shine a light, shine a light, shine a light We’ve been clearing off the shelves Notes hand-written in the night The window’s plants are dry and tangled But still leaning to the light Shine a light on us Shine a light, shine a light, shine a light Shine a light on us Shine a light, shine a light, shine a light High above this daily race He is free from time and space Life’s a complicated thing Some find a way to leave with grace Shine a light on the stone Let them see it from the road Shine from heaven’s distant home To celebrate this one who’s flown Shine a light on us Shine a light, shine a light, shine a light Shine a light on us Shine a light, shine a light, shine a light

Live on Love 03:27
LIVE ON LOVE © Meg Tennant & Janet Lillian Russell Some folks live on good intentions Some folks live on old pretensions You and I, we just live on love Some folks take all your attention Others leave without a mention You and I, we just live on love La la la la la la la la We just live on love Some get bitter, some they smoulder Some are looking for a shoulder You and I, we just live on love Some folks worry now they’re older Long dark nights are getting colder But you and I, we just live on love La la la la la la la la We just live on love Round and round and round the wheel What you think and how you feel What does a starry night reveal? You are there without a sound When trouble comes to knock me down ‘Cause you and I, we just live on love La la la la la la la la We just live on love

LET’S WALK THIS ROAD © Meg Tennant Sometimes the stars just align Some things are beyond words to explain Some days you wake up and everything’s changed It takes a brave heart to follow A path that beckons though it’s overgrown and wild I want to walk down that road outside the city Sun shining through the evergreens Let’s walk this road Come on, walk this road They say the light gets brighter when you reach the open sea Let’s walk this road Come on, walk this road To where the waves are rolling endlessly And when the night falls down We can make our blankets of starlight and leaves Listen to the crickets, smell the dewy darkness Dream our dreams whatever they will be Let’s walk this road Come on, walk this road They say the light gets brighter when you reach the open sea Let’s walk this road Come on, walk this road To where the waves are rolling endlessly City steel and concrete, trying to take up your time It can feel a little lonely, that kind of uphill climb But we can walk this road There’s magic on this road They say the light gets brighter when you reach the open sea Let’s walk this road Come on, walk this road To where the light on the ocean, and the sound of the waves Will feel like home Yeah, it feels like home
